Busy Bag: Cup and Straws

One of my goals this year is to make a new activity each week for either Toddler Veg or Preschool Veg and also to blog about it!  This week, I am featuring a simple, yet fun activity.  I found a set of cups at the dollar store (5 in a pack for $1)  a bag of straws at the dollar store, so my supplies were cheap and colorful!  I cut the straws in half.  The object is to pick the straws up one at a time and place into the cup.  I understand that you might find this activity quite easy but the child will be practicing fine motor skills when picking up the straw and placing into the cup.  They will also be practicing problem solving skills when placing the straw into the cup as it gets fuller and space is more limited.  Another plus of this activity is it promotes independence.  When you want your child to play independently it needs to be something that your child has mastered or can do.  This is the perfect activity to help promote those skills.   You can also add in tongs for an extra skill challenge.  Picking up those skinny straws with tongs will be a challenge.

If you are making this activity for a busy bag swap, you need:
1 small plastic cup
at least 4 straws cut in half
Place all into a quart or gallon size bag for each participant
